Housing is not just about a place to live – it’s about family stability, community ties, preserving dignity and ensuring that everyone can collectively thrive. Yet one unexpected expense can turn a safe home into an uncertain future, leaving some facing eviction, homelessness or impossible choices between paying rent and meeting basic needs.

In 2023/24, BC Rent Bank supported 3,436 renters – each with their own unique story and circumstance.

Below are firsthand accounts from rent bank users who have experienced rent struggles or faced eviction. These stories highlight the challenges that so many face and shed light on the realities of housing insecurity – something that affects far more people than we often realize, from family members to friends to neighbours.
