Save BC Rent Bank – sign the petition before it’s too late
February 3, 2026
Across British Columbia, thousands of renters are one unexpected crisis away from eviction or homelessness. Since 2019, BC Rent Bank has been a lifeline for people facing short-term financial shocks, keeping families safely housed during challenging times.
But now, this critical program is at risk.
Our funding agreement with the Government of British Columbia expires in Spring 2026. Without a renewed funding commitment in the 2026 B.C. Budget on February 17, rent banks across the province will be forced to wind down operations. Thousands of vulnerable renters will lose access to the one program specifically designed to keep them securely housed during unexpected emergencies.
This impact is being recognized across the province. On January 13, Port Moody City Council unanimously endorsed a call for the province to renew and expand funding for BC Rent Bank. The Mayor of Port Coquitlam recently wrote to Housing Minister Boyle regarding his support for continued, long-term provincial funding for BC Rent Bank due to the critical role it plays.
At a time of economic uncertainty, rising costs, and ongoing housing pressures, this kind of preventative investment is especially important.
This is your last chance to help.
Send a letter to the B.C. government now to help save BC Rent Bank!
